If you thought you'd seen the last of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare series, you may well be wrong.
As reported a while back, Activision seem to be about to put a lot of faith in the dev team, Neversoft Studios. Rumours are suggesting that Neversoft will be taking up the MW series! But is there more than meets the eye....
Neversoft Studios were the creators of Guitar Hero and the Tony Hawk franchise, both of which are currently lying in an unwanted heap. In short, their resume does not seem to display any experience in FPS games. So why task them with their most successful shooter franchise? To bring a change maybe?
So, Modern Warefare's story-arc is already finished, or so they say; but will Activision actually resurrect it and bring out a sequel? Well, it is the most profitable title in their stable so why not. Maybe they have Infinity ward working on creating an entirely new series in the Call of Duty brand for the next generation of consoles. Most probably build a new game engine while there're at it, huh..
Neversoft studios have a tough task at hand if the rumour does come true, and when rumours are of Call of duty, they come out to be true. So going with the title, the game's atmoshere will be set in modern times but there's the twist. A contact for Se7enSins recently visited Neversoft Offices and apparently got a peek at their game. They tried to write down their thoughts on paper but it clearly doesn't compare to what they saw. Still, here's what they had to say:
"It's another MW game. There's something called,'Drone Survaillance'. They're working on 'HALO' jumps (High Altitude; Low X). There is a level under ice. There is cloaking tech. Something called a 'Dominator UAV'. "
What it means is that the game might jump into the future like it's sibling franchise - Treyarch's Black ops 2. A level under ice, an machine called Dominator UAV and the ability to cloak, all that sounds good but there must be an equally interesting story to shape all that up. Lets give Neversoft Studios our sincere wishes, they're going to need it!
So we are presuming this: Treyarch brings Black ops 2 this year, then comes Neversoft's Modern Warfare 4, and the year after that Infinity ward's new title( most probably on the new-gen consoles). Sounds interesting, doesn't it? Activision is sitting on a platter that keeps churning out dollars, every single year. If only they satisfied all their fans...
It's going to be a defining point for the publishing giant when Neversoft releases their entry; because then they'll have 3 studios making 3 Call of Duty games every alternative years. And every game getting a development cycle of 2 years; makes the future a bright one for Activision, gamers, the industry, and the studios alike.
